Alvise wrote a long comment with the panorama # 18208 in Italian for evaluation, which I understood unfortunately not completely.

I have a simple system for the improvement of the evaluation, which I would like to present for discussion:

To evaluate may only, who high-loaded even a picture. Per picture maximally two possibly four evaluations.

If Thomas Schabacher cannot program that, then we must keep that. One can make that for example in such a way: Everyone opens a comment with its new panorama. There he registers, which panoramas he evaluated.

How to eliminate the problem for which now the pictures are not jugded on the basis of the rate, but in base of the number of four stars they get, and the retaliatory problem? In order to increase the honesty of the judgment, I think that the global parameter is not sufficient. As the site says, in fact, a picture must be evaluated on the basis of art, quality of stitch, quality of technichal presentation (sharpness, ..). I think that the judgment should be divided at least into three cathegories, with a separate rate button, and then the global rate is the (weighted?) combination of the three. In this way, furthermore, each photograph could be aware about which field he must improve his work. How to eliminate retaliatory rating? By eliminating the best and the worse rate, after that a picture reaches like 10 rates.

@Stefano, my proposal can perhaps to cause that the now usual evaluation - that for nearly all panoramas, no matter how good they are four stars are given - are changed. But you are right that one should actually make a qualified evaluation. That was already quite often suggested, but it was not realized by Thomas Schabacher.
Therefore I suggest now that we organize that.

...es sich auch noch mal lohnen würde dorthin zu fahren aber erst Mitte August. Trotzdem freue ich mich ganz besonders, das Dir diese freie Sicht mit den (noch) wenigen und deshalb die Szenerie belebenden Wolken gelungen ist. Das schönste Wölkchen ziert aber genau den Sattel zwischen Mittelgipfel und Hauptgipfel des Breithorns und ist die Stelle auf die Petra und ich uns vor fast 15 Jahren gequelt haben...
Auch wenn das einige anders sehen ist diese Szenerie eine der schönsten im Wallis für mich nur Schade das das Weisshorn nicht gleich daneben steht...

@Heinz: unfortunately I think it would be impossible to organize a quite complex evaluation system without a direct implementation on the site, only few people would follow it. Let's hope that Thomas finds some little time to think about a solution.

In my humble opinion there are some good ideas about correcting and improving the evaluation system of this website. Does anybody else want to give his own opinion?

Better late than never, but...In a comment to #17278 Arne Rönch suggested, that the stars could simply be added, instead of strange calculations. In that way 3* would be a moderate encouragement, instead of now, where it is de facto a punishment. Also strange coincidal new-commer-ratings would not ruin anything.

I can of course understand the point of rating technique and motif different, I just don't think it would change anything. We rate by so different standards, that it would not be senseful. I think many panos are just moderate sharp, but they can still be hailed with "great sharpness". Also transsitions in the sky can (now and then) be accepted even when they are quite obvious. The point is, that the "thumbs up"-system will go ahead in any new rating system, so one rating or 3 types of rating will not make much difference. The 0*-rating could still be kept as a kick-out-rating. Also, it could be a good idea if one could rate, only when getting ratings for one self, instead of now, when you can upload a single shot, and start rating very bad. There is a risk of vandalism.
