Punta Rognosa rises on the dividing chain between the upper Valle di Susa and the upper Val Chisone, and towers over the well-known Sestriere ski-resort.
It is by far the highest summit in Val Chisone, and one of the most elevated mountain in the whole range. Due to its outstanding position, it offers a stunning panorama on the underlying Val Troncea and Valle Argentera (partly displayed in the picture) and their imposing and wild crown of summits. In the distance stands the Pic de Rochebrune, in the bordering French region of Queyras, and Monviso to the south.
Even further, on clear days are clearly visible the glaciers of Ecrins and Vanoise, and both Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa.
