In nineteen-sixteen Italian artist Vittorio Monelli created this monument during his service on the front of World War I. Few hundred meters beneath the first line, this sculpture showed a big male winged figure with a sword in his hands, representing the strenght and the bravery of the soldiers who fighted for their homeland. It seems to me that the sculpture was dedicated to Austrian and German soldiers too, for the same reasons.
Now the Genius stands alone, staring in silence at the mountains that only a hundred years ago rumbled by the roaring of gunfires.
