Es war windig und so kalt, dass sich Anraum am Gras auf dem Boden gebildet hat, aber trotzdem mussten wir am Breithorn bleiben um das wunderbare Licht und die großartige Wolkenstimmung einzufangen.

What do you think about that?
Ciao, Alvise
in no way I'm really competitive to most and many of the photographers here but up to a certain time in the past I tried hard to improve. I very much agree in your appeal but have to confess that I just gave up - I disliked the common practice where ratings given on each and every pano simply generated more ratings received (human behaviour)- so I became a dormant user and a-p is now just a personal diary ... but I support your call, hence the comment.
I myself try hard to imrove and would really appreciate hints as to my mistakes instead of just seeing panos unrated - and uncommented.
The problem is (probably a human one again), that I myself don't find it easy to give comments on problematic panos - just because no one else has commented on them and I feel far from playing an eligible "big shot" here. I feel I just don't want to go patronizing around hurting people's feelings - but that's part of the problem, probably.
It's the culture of commenting and giving and accepting advice that should be worked on here. I'm sure the whole a-p community would benefit from it!
Anyway - sorry Uta for the controversial remark -
ist ja nicht das erste deiner Panos das einen langen Diskussionstreifen hinterlassen hat. Dein Pano ist wieder mal erste Sahne :)
Greets, Michael
Rechts darf gern noch bisschen beschriftet werden.
Ein Impuls der aufstellt! Gefällt mir!
Gruss Walter
We have discussed the rating system a few times and I'd have a lot to say, but I think this is maybe not the core of the issue. In my eyes, the current practice of counting "I like" **** ratings gives a ranking just as good as returning to usage of *, ** and ***.
The main issue that you're hinting at is attitude - do photographers want to improve or do they just collect stars? Improvement only goes by learning and discussion. Restricting to only positive comments blocks both. As much as I appreciate positive feedback, I would be happy about more critical remarks and suggestions to my panos, and I would be happy to learn more from discussions on other people's panos. I wouldn't see a contradiction between giving **** and still some remarks on opportunities for further improvement. This is all not so much about the number of stars, but on how to use the comment box.
In some cases (also recently), photographers don't even bother to react on comments and suggestions which shows they don't seem to have an interest in learning. I have decided not to argue with them but to ignore these going forward.
@Uta - sorry for using your beautiful pano for this discussion, but unfortunately there's no general purpose forum on this site.
Cheers,
Martin
